MOOSE LAKE, Minn. – A PIT maneuver by Carlton County Deputies ends a pursuit with an alleged stolen vehicle that began in Wisconsin, court records show.
Carlton County Deputies used a PIT maneuver to end a chase with an alleged stolen vehicle that began in Douglas County, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, a criminal complaint showed. Cody John Sanda, 29, of South Range, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, third-degree drug possession, fleeing, and carrying a BB gun in public.
According to the criminal complaint, the chase with law enforcement was initiated in Douglas County, but Carlton County Deputies took over the pursuit of Sanda on Highway 23. Deputies said that as they pursued the vehicle, their speeds “averaged in the mid-90s.”
One deputy used a PIT maneuver on the vehicle as the pursuit neared the town of Kerrick, which caused the vehicle to drive “into a ditch and slowly rolled onto the driver’s side door causing damage to the vehicle.” As the deputy approached the vehicle, they reported Sandra showed “several signs of controlled substance impairment,” and allegedly admitted to being under the influence.
The complaint said a “replica handgun Glock G17” was found on Sandra when he was arrested, and a black BB handgun was located in the car near his feet. Near the vehicle, deputies reported a sandwich bag that contained 22.27 grams of a white crystal substance that field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
A search warrant was executed to obtain a sample of Sandra’s blood when he was taken to the Moose Lake Hospital, and it was sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for testing.
Sanda is also a fugitive out of Wisconsin after he allegedly absconded from his parole on July 17, court records showed. He has been previously convicted of offenses in Wisconsin, including fleeing in a motor vehicle and methamphetamine possession.
