By: Alex Evans

DULUTH, Minn. – Authorities say a man shot fireworks at his neighbor’s home while threatening to kill them.

On Tuesday, July 15, Duluth Police were dispatched to the 17 block of 60th Ave W at around 11:37 p.m. for reports of a man throwing mortars and “threatening to burn [his neighbor’s] house down. Officers spoke with the neighbor and two of her friends who were present, who identified the suspect as 49-year-old Phillip Everett Bacon, according to a criminal complaint.

Bacon reportedly approached his neighbor and her friends earlier in the day, and was angry about their cars “pulling into the shared alley between their houses.” He then allegedly threatened the group by “making statements that he would kill them and burn their house down.”

According to the complaint, the neighbor and her friends locked themselves in the home, while Bacon continued to yell at them. The group then “heard loud booms outside which shook the house,”

Officers reported finding “firework debris in the yard,”  burn marks to the home, and even “a small blast area under the gas meter.” Bacon was found in his own garage, along with firework packaging reportedly found near him.

Bacon is charged with first-degree arson and threats of violence, which could carry a combined sentence of 25 years in prison.
